The Story Behind That Viking Gentleman

Music wasn't always the plan.

I first picked up a saxophone at the age of 21 after seeing my sister play and deciding I wanted to give it a go myself. What started as a few lessons quickly became a passion, and before long I joined a local covers band.

The funny thing is, I didn't join as a singer.

When our vocalist was unable to perform at the last minute, someone had to step up. I sang a handful of songs to help the band through the gig, and from that moment on I found myself not only playing saxophone, but fronting the band as its lead singer. It was an unexpected opportunity that opened the door to a whole new side of performing and ultimately shaped the entertainer I am today.

For many years I performed as part of a band, entertaining audiences across a wide variety of events. Then, during the Covid pandemic, when restrictions made group performances difficult, I made the decision to step out on my own and create something new.

That decision led to the birth of That Viking Gentleman.

The name reflects two things that have always been part of who I am: a small connection to my Scandinavian heritage and a lifelong fascination with Viking history. Combined with a professional, approachable style of performance, it felt like the perfect fit.

Today, That Viking Gentleman brings together everything I've learned throughout my musical journey — smooth saxophone, live vocals, timeless classics, soul, funk and party favourites — all delivered with one simple goal: creating memorable experiences for every audience.

Of all the events I perform at, weddings hold a special place in my heart.

There's something incredibly rewarding about being part of such an important day in someone's life. Whether it's providing the soundtrack to a drinks reception, helping create a magical atmosphere during the evening, or filling the dancefloor with family and friends, I never take for granted the trust couples place in me to be part of their celebration.

For me, great live music is about more than just playing songs.

It's about creating moments, That's why I do what I do.

And that's what That Viking Gentleman is all about.
